Smith Mountain
Lake began when the Blackwater and Roanoke Rivers were used to
create a hydro-electric dam in 1966 to create electricity.
Little known to the people in this rural community just how much
this project would change real estate values in the area. What
was once a quiet little community between the cities of Roanoke
and Lynchburg, quickly became one of the leading vacation
destinations of the East.
